Candle Wax & Wine

Not gonna lie, when Trace of BSP first told me I had to make a cover art for Dutch’s Candle Wax & Wine, I had no idea where to start. First thing I thought of was to do a vector of a candle and a wine glass, which is probably the most simple and obvious way to go. But after I heard the actual song, the lightbulb in my head lit up. Listening to the song for the first time, the sample reminded me of old school r&b singers from the 80′s. And in my head all I could see was a girl rolling around in her bed in nothing but her birthday suit reacting to every lyric in the song. I took these ideas and used my inspiration from Patrick Nagel to create the cover art.

Been there, done that.

A momentous moment indeed. Prior to this, ShaneDel’s “Perfect Getaway” already got a couple spins on 106KMEL two weeks before. This was the first official time hearing it LIVE and in person on the radio. I was lucky enough to be there with him and witness his reaction. Every musician anticipates that moment to finally hear their song on the radio. It’s a sign of hard work and success. Proud of my bro!

I was lucky enough to be given the gracious opportunity to work with Breakstone Productions and now Im proud to say that I am their in-house graphic designer! You can call it an “internship” or whatever but in my opinion, it’s waaayyy more than that. This is the door I’ve been looking for to help lead me into doing more LEGIT graphic design work that will be given a bigger stage and opportunity to be seen by more people. Theres no words to express my gratitude and my excitement for my future with BSP. Its crazy to think that everything I do here on out will just get bigger and bigger. Shout out to the whole BSP fam, especially Tracy and Chris for really giving me the chance to work with yall and believing in my talent! I really appreciate it and yall wont be disappointed!

Another hiatus from blogging and look what happened, I turned 23! As I get older, I find myself wanting to do less over-the-top type celebrating and wanting to do more chill, do-something-different type things. First on my bithday agenda was hit up the Museum of Modern Arts in SF. Been meaning to hit this up for a while now and finally getting to do it on my birthday was much more fun. A lot of inspiration in there and it was crazy seeing authentic works by Warhol, Kahlo, Picasso, Dali, Mondrian, etc. The whack thing about MOMA was they only allowed photography on the first floor so sorry for the lack of pics. Next on the birthday agenda was a late lunch at OSHA Thai. And their Pad Thai was on hit! I must go back and fuck with the rest of their menu. Next, was treating myself to some new threads. Stopped by Black Scale and H&M in DTSF. The city had perfect weather to be walking around during the night time. Lastly, I took the celebration over to McCovy’s in Walnut Creek. Good times with good people over there. Overall, I must say this birthday was a perfect chill day, celebrating my 23rd year of life. Shout out to all the people that greeted my on twitter and facebook! Yall kilt my Blackberry battery! Everyone of yall are much appreciated!

Patrick Nagel defined a decade with his Art Deco, Japanese inspired art. You can’t see his work and not think 80′s. He started with photographs and basically interpreted his subject with point, line, and planes. “Fantasy realism”. His work is something else. I see this, and think of so many designs. Just copped myself the Canon Rebel T1i! A huge upgrade from my Sony Cybershot. Getting this camera, I’ll be doing a whole lot more of video (not just ODTV and Creative Overdose) and photogrphy. Trying to be a jack of all trades, video, photography, and graphic design. Me and my homie, Ian Navarro are also planning to come up with skits and short documentaries. So look out for that. Here’s a short test video I shot earlier today featuring my dogs, lol.
